Close observers may have noticed that Justin Thomas is wearing a different type of footwear.
Thomas has always been a classic player, but since the Zozo Championships this fall, he has been wearing FootJoy’s new HyperFlex golf shoes, which the Acushnet-owned company officially unveiled at this week’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida.
The HyperFlex line has been available for some time, but the latest edition impressed Thomas enough that he decided to make a change. Thomas was one of the people who shared his insights while building the new HyperFlex (also Corey Conners and Ben An), and the version Thomas wears is a prototype designed to meet his unique swing requirements.
“I’ve worn classic structured shoes for almost my entire career – Classics, Icon, Premiere, etc. – but I had to make a change when I tried the HyperFlex,” Thomas said. “This shoe is perfect, super comfortable and flexible in the right areas, but also gives me all the support I need to make a strong and confident move on the ball.”
The $180 HyperFlex will retail on March 4, with the $225 carbon option arriving in April.
Notable HyperFlex features include a StratoFoam midsole for comfort, the TruFit system that combines flexibility and locked-in support, and an OptiFlex outsole that uses LP Pulsar studs for enhanced traction and PowerPlate that helps transfer energy to the ground for maximum speed assassination .
“We wanted to ensure that Hyperflex was the pinnacle of sporting performance in golf,” said Dan Buonomo, product manager, FJ footwear. “Our goal remains to focus on the discerning golfer and understand their needs in terms of style, comfort and golf-specific performance, which you will see in the new HyperFlex.”
