But rarely has the atmosphere been so hostile on stage, and both players didn’t hold back in celebrating their legs. Kim Huybrechts ultimately won this exciting match 4-3.
The two teams then faced each other again in the deciding pairs match. The situation there was not very friendly either, because a moment later, the gesture at Nicholson’s throat was followed by the same gesture from Kim Huybrechts. Ultimately, victory went to Belgium after Ronny secured the decisive point by hitting the bull’s-eye with a score of 86. “There wasn’t really much going on during the singles shows,” recalls Kim Huybrechts. “I know Nicholson was particularly angry because he lost after leading 3-0.”
“During the match he made this gesture along his throat and I took it very personally. He later said it had something to do with wrestling, but then my cockiness came to the surface. By the way, the signs ended up costing Paul and both of them a lot of money because we received a fine from PDC in the mail.”
