Newport 1 – 2 Swindon

Joe Westley, son of former Newport manager Graham, came off the bench to score on his Swindon debut and give the Robins a valuable 2-1 win at Rodney Parade.

Ian Holloway’s men climbed to 16th in League Two, 11 points clear of the bottom two, while a fifth consecutive defeat left County in 20th place.

The hosts took a lead in the 12th minute when David Ajiboye burst through an attempted tackle and his fierce effort was too hot for Swindon goalkeeper Jack Bycroft, allowing Kyle Hudlin to bundle in the rebound.

But Swindon leveled within three minutes when Harry Smith let fly from 25 yards after a lucky ricochet, caught his shot brilliantly and beat Nick Townsend at his near post.

Harry Smith equalized for Swindon three minutes after Newport scored, with a stunning first-time strike.

Townsend got down well to palm away a shot from Nnamdi’s offside just after the break and the visitors were rewarded for an improved second-half display with the winner 15 minutes from time.

Tounmise Sobowale broke down the right and crossed for the 20-year-old striker Westley, who only joined Swindon on loan from Burnley on Thursday, to slot over.
