No. 7 Houston rallies, more than once, to down No. 12 Kansas 92-86 in double OT

J’Wan Roberts scored 24 points, including six in two overtimes, and No. 7 Houston defeated No. 12 Kansas 92-86 on Saturday night.

Roberts hit two free throws with 13.9 seconds left in regulation. At the end of the first overtime, Houston (16-3, 8-0 Big 12) again scored three points from Emanuel Sharp AND Mylik Wilson send him to second overtime.

The Cougars got 18 from Wilson and 17 points, nine rebounds and nine assists Miłosz Uzan.

Houston: Injuries hampered the Cougars. Sharp, who missed Houston’s final game against Utah with an injury, played 25 minutes but scored just eight points. Ja’Vier Francis sprained his ankle early in the first half and played only 3:45. He finished with four points.

Kansas: Bidunga, after scoring just two points after being knocked down in the last second of the first half, scored 17 points in the second half and overtime to give him a career-high 19. KJ Adams was sidelined with a shoulder injury, and his contributions helped Kansas game against Houston’s strong front line.

A key moment

Houston used a 13-0 run early in the second half to turn a 40-31 deficit into a lead. Kansas went 6:21 without a point and missed eight shots in a row during the run, including a failed attempt at a breakaway dunk Shakeel Moore.

Key statistics

Both teams wasted a lot of chances. The teams combined to shoot 56% from the free throw line. Houston missed its first eight free throws in the second half and finished just 4 of 13, and was 14 of 25 for the game.

The Jayhawks lost 17 of their 30 points.

Next

Houston will travel to West Virginia on Wednesday night, and Kansas will host UCF on Tuesday night.
