Jiri Vesely (Czech Republic) had a short nausea, took a pill and was squeezed to the effort, by his opponent Ergi Kirkin (Turkey), when he left, apparently because of dehydration to adopt the victory of Walkover, 7-7-6 (7), 6 (3) -7, in the first round of Chennai Open ATP Challenger at the SPAT tennis stadium on Wednesday.
Each of them broke once in the match. Vesely broke in the first game before Kirkin broke up to do 4-4. Vesely Press ASA to save a fixed point in 4-5, stretching it to a breakthrough.
Kirkin gathered with 2-5 to draw level 5-5 and led 7-6, but Vesely hit several Forehand Crosscourt winners in a box and the Backhand cruciferous winner to get a draw.
The second set and the resulting fracture of the tie were similar to the neck. In a fracture of the tie Kirkin returned from 0-2 to make 2-2 before a few unforced Vesely errors and volleyball on the front helped him lead 5-2. From 5-3 Kirkin closed him 7-3 when Vesely made several unforced mistakes.
When they retired, Vesely said he was leaving.
“Mentally, it was difficult because I was so close. I also had a 5-4 point and he hit ASA. It was difficult to lose this set, because then I thought I had a long way – that I had to win two long sets. But I felt that I was better (than his opponent) physically – said Kirkin after the match.
