Premier League 2024-25: Man City files new legal challenge over financial rules

Manchester City has registered another legal challenge against the Premier League regarding the rules regarding “related party transactions”.

British Press Association announced on Friday that City competes to Apt Rules voted for the Premier League clubs in November last year. These changes were forced to the league by earlier legal challenge by the defending master.

The APT rules are aimed at ensuring honest market value to trade contracts with organizations strictly adapted to club owners. The rules are aimed at preventing artificial overstate of transactions such as sponsorship, which may undermine the financial principles of the league.

The league introduced the rules in December 2021 after Newcastle was purchased by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.

The new application means that there are now three legal matters between the city and the league.

The city is facing over 100 allegations of alleged financial violations from the league.
