Angie Postecoglou has jumped to the defense of Christian Romero after he made critical comments about the Tottenham Hotspur board following the north London club’s defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
The Argentina star returned from a toe injury against the Blues but his comeback was short-lived as the centre-back had to leave the pitch after just 15 minutes due to another fitness issue – Romero expected to miss six weeks.
Things got worse for the defender as his side blew a 2-0 lead against Chelsea before losing 4-3.
After the defeat, Romero gave an interview to Spanish broadcaster Telecom Sports The 26-year-old criticized Daniel Levy and other members of the Tottenham Hotspur board for their lack of spending compared to rivals.
“The last few years it’s always been the same – first the players, then the coaching staff, and it’s always the same people in charge,” the Spurs star said via ESPN. “Hopefully they realize who is really responsible and we move on because this is a beautiful club that can easily compete for titles every year with the structure it has in place.”
This will impress some Tottenham fans and force Postkoglu to defend his players in front of the media.

Speaking to the media ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League match against Rangers, Postecoglou under pressure In Romero’s defence, the centre-back only wants to do what’s best for the club.
The Australian coach said: “In the context of the day, Christian was very disappointed because he worked so hard to come back and then had to go watch the team play and feel the pain of another defeat.”
“He was very emotional and the leader of the club and had not been able to help us, but he tried to help by saying we were going through a difficult time and realizing what we were doing.”

Postkoglu continued: “A lot of what he said was good, but some of it was wrong and should not have been said in public. We will deal with them within our four walls. I will not speak in a public sense. criticize a player.”
The situation will divide opinion among Tottenham fans, but most are likely to back Romero as the Argentina star has become a fan favorite since moving to north London.
