The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has banned former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan from bowling in competitions organized by the board due to his illegal bowling.
“Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling during the ECB competition following an independent review of his bowling,” the ECB said in a statement.
Shakib’s behavior was reported by permanent referees when he played for Surrey in the County Championship match against Somerset in September.

Earlier this month, the 37-year-old underwent an independent assessment at Loughborough University which found that elbow extension while bowling exceeded the 15 degree threshold set out in the Regulations.
The ECB said the suspension took effect from the date of receipt of the independent assessment on 10 December 2024 and is in line with the process set out in the ECB Regulations for the review of bowling players reported for suspected illegal bowling.
“Shakib is ineligible to bowl in the ECB competition until he undergoes an independent re-assessment of his bowling ability,” the statement further read.
