Participation in Nationals not mandatory for Paris 2024 shoo…

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has given more time to shooters participating in the Paris Olympics to prepare for the upcoming season. Therefore, the national championships held in Delhi and Bhopal are not mandatory for them.

However, Olympic shooters must participate in trials held between January and February before becoming eligible for the national team.

The first Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun World Cups are scheduled to be held in April in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Lima, Peru, and the NRAI will take into account the results of the third Olympic trials, particularly those of the Paris Olympians.

For rifles and pistols, selection will be based on an average of 4 of the last 5 scores over a 180-day period.

NRAI also announced that Team ‘A’ will select the top three shooters and Team ‘B’ will select three more shooters. It will have the privilege of fielding any team of its choice into international competitions, presumably preparing a pool of shooters for the continental and world championships.

The National Shooting Association also hopes that shooters can clarify in advance their eligibility to participate in adult or youth competitions. Once a choice is made, shooters may have to stick with it throughout the season.

Final places in different international and domestic competitions will have different values of bonus points, which will be added to the qualifying points for that event.

Only the top ten shooters in the country are eligible to compete internationally in designated competitions, even at their own expense, including non-Olympic sports.

The NRAI provides a degree of flexibility for mixed events to combine the top 2 men’s and women’s shooters, as long as both teams are available.

For shotgun selection, only the top three qualifying scores will receive bonus points. Shotgun shooters must participate in a mandatory tryout or event, two of which will be considered for selection, in addition to earning three other points.

In the shotgun competition, the NRAI also has the right to field an ‘A’ team or a ‘B’ team in international competitions.

In addition to the World Cup, the Asian Championships and World Championships will be held in 2025.
