IND-W vs WI-W: Captain Harmanpreet focussed on positives ahead of T20I series against West Indies

Harmanpreet Kaur believes that supporting yourself in difficult times is the key to overcoming a difficult stage and continuing your work.

And, by her own admission, her team did just that after an embarrassing ODI series defeat to Australia earlier in the week. “When you have less time, it is very difficult to go back and reflect on the things we have done in the past, but at the same time it is important to continue to talk about the positives,” Harmanpreet said on Saturday ahead of India’s Women’s T20I series against the West Indies .

“The young girls who have joined the team are doing really well in the nationals – they’ve got a lot of runs under their belt, so they’re also positive and, you know, batting really well. So it’s about talking to them… Staying together is something very important and something we are already doing,” said the captain.

The selectors dropped fast bowler Arundhati Reddy from the Indian white-ball squads and handed call-ups to Nandini Kashyap and Raghvi Bist in the T20Is squad. Talking about their inclusion, Harmanpreet said, “They both did really well in the Challenger Trophy which we just played a few days ago and that’s why they got the opportunity and all I can say is that it’s a great platform for them and I hope they serve really well team…”

Uttarakhand’s Kashyap was her team’s leading run-scorer in this year’s Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, scoring 247 runs in seven innings, including an unbeaten knock of 117 against Pondicherry.

Bist scored three consecutive half-centuries in a row during India A’s one-dayers against Australia A in August in Mackay. She played for the E team in the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy and scored a 51-ball 71 against the A team in the final.
