Pro League Hockey: Sam Ward scores four as England beat Ireland

Sam Ward scored four goals for England moved to the top of the Pro League table , externalfollowing a one-sided 8-0 victory over Ireland in Argentina.

England trailed 2-0 and won 3-2 on penalties when the teams met in the first leg on Thursday, but this time they were masterful in the penalty shootout, converting seven of their 13 chances.

Sam Hooper scored the first of his two goals within the first minute, with Stuart Rushmere adding the second shortly afterwards.

Ward then got on the scoresheet with a second left in the quarter, leaving England in a dominant position.

Hooper scored again early in the second quarter to leave it 4-0 at half-time, before two more goals from Ward and a strike from Rohan Bhuhi, who passed from the back of the area and beat the keeper in the third quarter, extended the lead.

Ward had the last word in the fourth quarter as England finished the series in Santiago del Estero with 11 points – three ahead of Belgium, with Ireland in sixth place with one point.
