Wolves’ 2-1 defeat at Ipswich Town on Saturday could have a major impact on West Ham United as Gary O’Neill is in danger of being sacked after a setback at Molineux.
Jack Taylor’s late strike gave the Tractor Boys all three points, which leaves Wolves 19th in the Premier League table with just two wins from 16 games.
This could be the end of O’Neill’s time at Molineux, with the England manager already under intense pressure ahead of the game against Ipswich Town.
Losing out to relegation candidates doesn’t suit the former Bournemouth manager and the Premier League side could move to Graham Potter next week.
according to daily mail, Wolves The search for O’Neill’s replacement is ongoing, with exploratory conversations believed to have been held with Porter last month. The former Chelsea boss is believed to be unsure about the role but someone at the club could convince him.
The hiring of Porter would have a major impact on West Ham, with vice-chairman Calum Brady keen to have the English coach take charge of the London club rather than current boss Julen Lopetegui.
Calum Brady wants Graham Potter to join West Ham United
Like O’Neill, Lopetegui is under pressure at West Ham, with the Hammers currently in 14th place in the Premier League with five wins from 15 games. The Spanish coach’s reign has so far been disappointing since the London club spent more than £120m on new players in the summer to help the Ironmen return to European football.
It didn’t work out for the former Wolves boss, according to transfer expert Ben JacobsBrady is secretly pushing for Potter to become West Ham manager.
The journalist claims that West Ham United are still very likely to sack Lopetegui within the next two weeks based on the results, while Porter joins Mathias Jasler, Massimiliano Allais Gerry, Edin Terzic and Conceicao are among other names that remain high on the shortlist.
Trouble is brewing behind the scenes at West Ham United
The former Chelsea manager’s experience in the Premier League and his engaging style of play will give him an advantage over other candidates.
Given the difference in resources, the West Ham job may be more attractive to Potter than Wolves, but it is more likely that the England coach will accept the challenge at Molineux over time.
