WPL auction 2025: Top five players who went unsold

The mini-auction ahead of the third edition of the Women’s Super League concluded in Bengaluru on Sunday with Indian all-rounder Simran Shaikh emerging as the most expensive prospect at a price of INR 1.90 Cr.

There are still five teams left to fill a total of 19 spots, and these five teams have retained most of their rosters before the auction. Of the 124 players who registered for the auction, just over 60 players were auctioned off to fill the remaining vacancies.

From India’s Snee Rana to England’s Heather Knight, here are the top five players who didn’t find any takers:

Sherana – India

Sneh Rana made her WPL debut in 2023 after being drafted for Rs. The Gujarat Giants earned Rs 75 lakh. She was asked to captain the team following an injury to regular captain Beth Mooney. However, her team finished bottom of the table, winning just two of eight games.

In the 2024 season, she did not enter the 11th game in most games and only played 4 games in total. Her team finished last for the second consecutive season.

In two seasons, Rana scored 46 runs in 12 games and took six wickets.

Heather Knight – England

Heather Knight, the right-hand batsman and captain of the England women’s cricket team, was unsold, causing a lot of dissatisfaction. Her base price is Rs 50 lakh.

In 2017, Knight led England to win the Women’s ODI World Cup.

Knight, who also bowls with his right arm at the break, has played 12 Test matches, 146 ODIs and 126 T20Is for his country.

She won the WBBL title with the Sydney Thunder in the 2020-21 season. She was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 40 lakh in the first season but did not play any matches.

Laura Harris – Australia

Laura Harris, 34, is the oldest player in the mini-auction.

Her base price was Rs 10 lakh but she failed to sell. Laura has played franchise cricket in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), The Hundred and Caribbean Premier League.

In the WBBL, Laura has been a member of the Brisbane Heat since their first season in 2015-16 and has won two championships. This season, she scored 159 points in 11 games, finishing second for the Heat.

Laura’s sister Grace has played 11 ODIs and 48 T20Is for the national team. Grace is with the UP Warriorz.

Lauren Bell – England

England bowler Lauren Bell, whose base price is Rs. 30 lakhs and it was not sold.

Humiraa Kazi – India

The base price of Indian batsman Humairaa Kaazi is Rs. 1 million, not sold.

She spent the last two seasons with Mumbai Indians but did little to show for her time there. She scored just 18 points in 17 games over two seasons. However, her latest statistics paint a different picture. Earlier this year in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, the 31-year-old finished as the top scorer with 328 runs in 11 games at an average of 36.44.
