Ashton Jeanty is on the verge of a historic season for runners, a Boise State The star believes that should be enough to push him towards the Heisman Trophy Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter.
“I really felt like I should have walked away with the award, but kudos to Travis for winning,” Jeanty told reporters Saturday after finishing as the Heisman runner-up. “But yes, it’s simple. Work harder, go harder.”
Hunter won the Heisman after receiving 552 first place votes and 2,231 points. Jeanty finished second with 309 first-place votes and 2,017 points, the closest margin of victory since 2009.
Jeanty has rushed for 2,497 yards this season and needs 132 yards in the College Football Playoff to break Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record of 2,628, which was set at State of Oklahoma in 1988
The Broncos will face the winner of the tournament SMU–Penn State CFP quarterfinal game at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on December 31.
Jeanty, who won the Maxwell Award for college football’s best player and the Doak Walker Award for the nation’s top running back on Thursday, said he was “100 percent” motivated by the fact that he didn’t win the Heisman.
“There is still a lot ahead of us,” he told reporters. “This is not the end, this is just the beginning. So I have to do a lot more to get what I want.”
