Mumbai City FC returned to winning ways by defeating 10-man Mohammedan Sporting SC by a solitary goal at the latter’s home ground in the ISL Match Week 12 – 11 match at the Kishore Bharati Stadium on Sunday.
Vikram Partap Singh found the net early in the second half as Mumbai City collected all the points, taking their tally to 17 points from 11 games and climbing to seventh place in the table. Suffering a seventh defeat in eight games, Mohammedan Sporting continued their terrible run of debut season and remained at the bottom of the table with five points after 11 games.
The opening session didn’t produce much as Mumbai City struggled to marshal effective attacks to challenge Sporting’s cohesive defense.
The match opened for the visitors in the 34th minute when Mohammedan Sporting’s squad was reduced to 10 men after the sending off of defensive midfielder Mohamed Irshad, who picked up two yellow cards in four minutes and was sent off.
After losing French midfielder Jeremy Manzorro to injury early in the match, Mumbai City also needed time to regroup and regain their footing after the break.
Immediately after the break, Mumbai City pressed the ball hard and found a break after an errant clearance by Mohammedan Sporting goalkeeper Bhaskar Roy, who released Vikram Pratap with a free opportunity. The Mumbai City striker made no mistake after a powerful attack that hit the right end of the hosts’ net.
Result:
Mohammedan Sporting SC 0 lost to Mumbai City FC 1 (Vikram Pratap Singh 48).
