Reuben Amorim insisted Marcus Rashford AND Alejandro Garnacho they weren’t kicked out of his squad for the Manchester derby due to a breach of discipline.
The couple was left out Manchester UnitedTeam composition for the match before the dramatic event 2-1 to win Manchester City on Sunday. United clarified before kick-off that both players were uninjured and were able to train as normal at Carrington on Sunday morning.
When asked after the match about the reasons for her decision, Amorim suggested that it was motivated by her performances in training, rather than punishment for a disciplinary offense.
“It’s important to say why: it wasn’t a disciplinary matter,” Amorim said at a post-match press conference. “Next week, next match, new life, they will fight for their places.
“For me, it’s about performance in training, performance in games, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you interact with your teammates, the way you put pressure on them.
“Everything is important in our context at the beginning of something, when we want to change a lot, when people in our club lose their jobs, we have to set ourselves really high standards and for that they have to fight for a place in the club’s team.
“Today the team proved that they can eliminate anyone and win if they play together. If it had been disciplinary, I would have said there would be a bigger problem here, but it wasn’t.”
United won the match at the Etihad Stadium, scoring two late goals after conceding a goal If Guardiolheader in the first half.

Amorim called it a “good day” but was then forced to deal with online leaks which revealed his starting XI against City almost 24 hours before kick-off.
Team selections are usually announced publicly 75 minutes before the match, while information about United’s starting line-up at the Etihad Stadium was circulating on social media on Saturday evening.
“I know the story,” Amorim replied. “I don’t know. I don’t think it can be fixed these days because there are so many people in the club.
“Players talk to agents, you can talk to a friend. So it’s hard to say. It’s not a good thing, but let’s move on, let’s move on to the next one and see if they find their next starting XI.”
