Thanks to a brilliant four-wicket haul by 17-year-old spinner Sonam Yadav and an entertaining knock from G. Kamilini, India thrashed Pakistan by nine wickets in their Group A match of the U19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup on Sunday.
Left-arm spinner Sonam achieved her best international bowling score of 4 for 6, helping India restrict Pakistan to just 67/7 in 20 overs. The score was then improved in 7.5 overs, with Kamilini playing a full-strike, unbeaten knock of 44 runs and just 29 deliveries.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, only two Pakistani players, openers Komal Khan (24) and Fatima Khan (11), reached double figures and Sonam bowled the entire middle order to take their score to 43 for six.
In response, India lost opener Trisha Gongadi for a duck before Kamilini and Sanika Chalke (19 not out) contributed to the unbeaten team’s 67-run victory.
Who is G Kamalini, the TN all-rounder bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 1.60 crore?
Wicketkeeper Kamilini, 16, smashed four boundaries and three sixes to decimate Pakistan’s weak attack.
India will next face Nepal in the final Group A match on Tuesday before the squads for the Super Four stage are selected.
