DETROIT– Detroit Lionsthe defense lost three key players to likely season-ending injuries in Sunday’s 48-42 loss to Liverpool Buffalo Billsincluding the cornerback Khalil Dorsey who had to be carried off the field during a terrifying scene at Ford Field.
Starting a defensive attack Alim McNeill he was also sidelined with a knee injury after missing the second half of Thursday’s game against Green Bay with a concussion. Corner Carlton Davis III he was also sidelined early in the second half with a jaw injury.
After the game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Dorsey would be sidelined for the season, and McNeill and Davis would likely be sidelined as well. Campbell said he “doesn’t feel good about any of these players coming back,” referring to McNeill and Davis, but noted the team will know more on Monday.
“Usually if I say I don’t feel good, it means it’s not going to be good for the rest of the year,” Campbell said. – So I don’t feel good about it.
McNeill signed a four-year contract extension earlier this season and later helped stabilize Detroit’s defensive line Aidan Hutchinson he fell in October with a fracture of his tibia and fibula.
Dorsey collapsed and had to be carried off the field late in the first half. Members of both the Lions and Bills rushed to his side as he fell. Dorsey apparently suffered an injury after his leg collided with a teammate’s leg Ezekiel Turner near the line of scrimmage. Dorsey was officially sidelined with an ankle injury and the Lions led 21-14 with 1:53 left in the second quarter.
Davis left the field after a helmet-to-helmet collision at 1:36 p.m. in the second quarter and was evaluated for a concussion. He was listed as questionable for return with a jaw injury before being ruled out.
There are currently 13 defenders on the Lions’ injured reserve list, apart from the final trio of injured players.
