American swimmer Gretchen Walsh set her 10th world record at the World Short Course Championships when she won gold in the 50-meter freestyle final, and on Sunday she added her 11th record as part of the winning U.S. team in the women’s 4×100-meter medley relay.
Walsh ran the 50 free distances at Budapest’s Duna Arena in 22.83 seconds, ahead of second American Kate Douglass by 0.22 seconds.
Walsh later took her total world record to 11 – nine individually and two in relays – when the United States, consisting of Regan Smith, Lilly King, Walsh and Douglass, won the relay in 3 minutes, 40.41 seconds. It started with Smith’s first backstroke stride of 54.02 seconds, also a world record.

Smith also set a world record in 1:58:04 to win the women’s 200m backstroke final, while compatriot Luke Hobson won gold in the men’s 200m freestyle in 1:38.61, also a world record .
Organizers said that a record number of 30 world records were set during the championship.
A world record was also set in the men’s 4x100m medley relay of Miron Lifintsev, Kirill Prigoda, Andrei Minakov and Yegor Kornev, competing as neutral athletes, with a time of 3:18.68.
The 25-meter-long pool is half the length of an Olympic swimming pool.
