Daren Sammy appointed West Indies head coach for all three formats

Former West Indies captain Daren Sammy has been appointed head coach of the country’s senior national team across all formats, the archipelago’s cricket governing body announced on Monday.

Sammy has already been the head coach of T20Is and ODIs. He will take over the test team from Andre Coley. Both were announced as coaches of their respective teams in 2023.

The 40-year-old will take over from April 1, 2025.

The news was announced by Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket West Indies (CWI), at his quarterly press conference in St Vincent.

“It’s an honor to represent the West Indies in any capacity,” Sammy said, adding that he would take up the challenge and help the Test team. The West Indies are currently placed last in the 2023-25 World Test Championship points table.

Sammy led the West Indies to two T20 World Cup titles (2012 and 2016). He played 38 Tests, 126 ODIs and 68 T20Is for the national team.
