Lions RB David Montgomery (MCL) to miss remainder of 2024 season

David Montgomery joined the growing list Detroit Lions players who will miss the rest of the 2024 season.

The Lions running back suffered an MCL injury in the loss to Liverpool Buffalo Bills which will require him to undergo season-ending surgery, Detroit coach Dan Campbell told reporters on Monday.

“We will miss him,” Campbell said.

Montgomery was one of four Lions players who suffered long-term injuries in the loss to the Bills. Defensive action Alim McNeill suffered a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament while a cornerback Carlton Davis will undergo surgery on his broken jaw and corner Khalil Dorsey he broke his right leg, which will rule him out for the rest of the season, according to many reports.

Lions coach Dan Campbell, speaking to reporters after Sunday’s 48-42 loss, expressed concern that each player could miss the rest of the season.

“We will know more about Alima and [Davis] tomorrow, but I don’t feel good about either of these guys,” Campbell said. “If I say I don’t feel good because of the injury, it means I’m not good for the rest of the season.”

Montgomery helped create arguably the best running back duos in the league Jahmyr Gibbs second season in a row. He rushed for 775 yards, 4.2 yards per carry and 12 touchdowns, good for fourth in the league.

McNeill became a key player in the Lions defense. He has totaled 25 tackles for 3.5 sacks this season, after five sacks last year. The fourth-year defenseman’s performance in 2023 helped him get a four-year, $97 million contract extension in October.

Davis started all 13 games he played in for the Lions after the team traded him in the offseason. In 13 games, he recorded a total of 56 tackles, two interceptions and two losses.

Dorsey has featured primarily on special teams for the Lions this season, playing in 71% of the special teams snaps. He recorded a total of 14 tackles this season.

The Lions squad already has 18 injured players and most of them are expected to miss the rest of the season. Edge chaser Aidan Hutchinson and defender Alex Anzalone He will play in a long group of injured reserve players. There is some hope that Hutchinson will be able to return from his broken leg injury if the Lions get to the NFC Championship Game, The matter was already reported by Jay Glazer from FOX Sports. Anzalone was expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks after being placed on injured reserve on November 18.
