Serie A 2024-25: Inter Milan thrashes Lazio 6-0 to to stay in title race

Inter Milan scored four goals in 12 minutes on either side of the break and added another late to defeat Lazio 6-0 in Monday’s match between the Serie A title contenders.

Lazio was unbeaten at home in Serie A in the 2024–25 season and matched Inter in front of their home fans for much of the first half at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, four minutes before the break, Hakan Çalhanoğlu put Inter ahead with a penalty, and Federico Dimarco doubled the lead seconds before the break when he volleyed in from Denzel Dumfries’ cross.

Lazio started the match without regular defender Alessio Romagnoli, with Samuel Gigot replacing central defender Matias Gila midway through the first half.

When Gigot was forced off the pitch at half-time, coach Marco Baroni was forced to reshuffle his back four, but from the restart there was a clear lack of experienced heads in central defense.

Six minutes into the second half, Nicolò Barella made it 3-0 with an impressive volley from 30 meters, and Dumfries was ahead of everyone and scored the fourth goal two minutes later.

Carlos Augusto showed good footwork in the penalty area and in the 77th minute increased the score to 5-0, and Marcus Thuram scored his eleventh goal of the season in the last minute, which deepened the hosts’ misfortune.

The result meant Inter were alone in third place, one game behind leaders Atalanta and one game behind Napoli.

Lazio remained fifth.
