The first ODI between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at the Harare Sports Club in Harare was called due to rain on Tuesday.
Rain had already delayed the start of play earlier, resulting in the match being reduced to 28 overs per team. Afghanistan brought Zimbabwe to its knees, with the host scoring 44 for five in 9.2 overs before the rain stopped again.
Azmatullah Omarzai took four wickets in 4.2 overs while AM Ghazanfar picked the second wicket. Captain Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza were in the lurch as the players had to leave the pitch.
An hour later the match was canceled.
The two teams will play the remainder of the ODI series again on Thursday and Saturday before switching over to the whites and playing a two-match Test series starting on December 26.
Before the ODIs, Afghanistan defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in the three-match T20I series.
