On Tuesday, Argentina and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez won the FIFA men’s best goalkeeper award at the Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar.
It was the second victory for the 32-year-old, who won the award in 2022.
Martinez won the Copa America this year with La Albiceleste and played a key role in his country’s victory on the continent.
He did not concede a single goal in the tournament in the group stage, saved twice in penalty shootouts in the quarter-finals, and kept a clean sheet in the semi-finals and final.
Earlier this year, he won the prestigious Yashin Trophy for the second year in a row. Last season he played a key role in helping Villa qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
