Sports Personality of the Year 2024: Trevor Painter and Jenny Meadows win Coach of the Year

Painter and Meadows guided Hodgkinson to Olympic silver as a teenager on her Olympic debut in Tokyo three years ago, before the Leigh athlete won further world silver medals in 2022 and 2023.

She then won Olympic gold by dominating the final and delivering the gold she and her team had been working for.

The joint award was presented to Painter and Meadows by the London 2012 Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill and Kelly Holmes, who won gold in the 800m and 1500m in Athens in 2004.

While Hodgkinson won Olympic gold, his teammate Bell also finished on the podium in Paris.

Bell quit track and field in 2017 and was still working full-time earlier this year.

But three years ago, after reuniting with Painter, the 31-year-old won a fairy-tale bronze in the 1,500 m in her Olympic debut, following silver in Europe in June.

Meanwhile, Davey is now a three-time global relay medalist at the age of 24, after adding bronze in Paris to his two medals at last year’s World Championships.

The 2025 World Championships will be held in Tokyo, where Painter and Meadows will hope to lead their athletes to further international success.

Last year, football manager Pep Guardiola was named Coach of the Year as his treble-winning Manchester City team won the Team of the Year.
