Promising young Pakistani pacer Ihsanullah returned to competitive cricket in the ongoing Champions Cup T20 tournament in Rawalpindi after being sidelined since late 2022 following a botched injury diagnosis.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has set up an independent medical panel to oversee his rehabilitation following prolonged problems with his treatment and recovery.
Ihsanullah emerged as a bright prospect during the 2022 Pakistan Super League to quickly break into Pakistan’s white-ball teams for T20 and ODI matches.
However, his progress was halted by an elbow injury, leading to close scrutiny of PCB’s medical management.
An independent medical panel found the injury had been misdiagnosed and no appropriate treatment was initially recommended.

Ihsanullah also did not follow the rehabilitation rules properly.
This mismanagement ultimately led to the resignation of PCB medical panel head Dr. Sohail Saleem.
During treatment, Ihsanullah even underwent elbow surgery, but later an independent medical panel sent him to England to see a specialist who ruled out another surgery but recommended a new rehabilitation program for the player.
At one point, even the PCB officials seemed to have lost patience with the young bowler for not taking his recovery seriously and later even blamed the PCB for his prolonged enforced absence from cricket.
Meanwhile, experienced Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan is also facing health issues while captaining the team in the Champions Trophy, which forced him to miss several matches in the event and he did not even bowl much.
