Indian off-spin stalwart Ravichandran Ashwin on Wednesday announced his retirement from international cricket after the conclusion of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Brisbane.
Ashwin, a prolific performer, retired with 537 Test wickets at an average of 24 and 3,503 runs, including six centuries. He also scored 156 in ODIs and 72 in T20Is.
Dominating on home terms for almost a decade, Ashwin delivered many memorable performances, especially under former captain Virat Kohli, who extended his best wishes for the next chapter in Ashwin’s life.

“I have been playing with you for 14 years and when you told me today that you were retiring, I got a little emotional and the memories of all those years of playing together came back to me,” Kohli said in a post on X.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey with you Ash, your skills and contribution to winning matches in Indian cricket are second to none and you will always be and will always be remembered as a legend of Indian cricket. I wish you all the best in life with your family and all that lies ahead. With great respect and lots of love for you and your loved ones. Thank you for everything, buddy,” he added.
