Ryan Meikle: Luke Littler showdown will be like a ‘cup final’

This year will be Meikle’s fifth appearance at the World Championships and will reach the second round for the third time in a row.

To pass the third round for the first time, he must defeat the player who did so raised the profile of the sport with its meteoric rise over the past 12 months.

After losing in the final to Luke Humphries on his 2023 debut, Littler won three PDC finals this year, was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year runner-up for the main prize on Tuesday.

Meikle knows that Littler will be the main favorite and sees this match as his “cup final”.

“100% – millions of viewers will come just to watch him play and I will be a part of it,” he said. “I will be honored to be there with him.

“Of course I have to play much better than before [in the first round] but having been there once – the first round is always the hardest – I hope to relax a little more and play my best match.

“I am realizing my dream and it is the greatest feeling.”
