Ricardo Pietreczko took his place in the second round of the 2025 elections PDC World Darts Championships. Coming off a potentially difficult draw with Chinese number one Xiaochen Zong, ‘Pikachu’ sealed a 3-0 victory to enter the second round of the showdown with Gian van Veen.
Pietreczko impressed last year at the Alexandra Palace, pushing Luke Humphries until the end, until they finally suffered a defeat in the third round. Since then, Pietreczko has not started to develop well and therefore returns to the World Championships without seeded status, opening himself up to a test match in the second round with Van Veen.

“It’s hard to put into words, but yes, I can’t wait to get to the second round,” the German happily recalls in his press conference after the match then. “Doubles, 56% success, is a very good result for me.”
As mentioned, last year the German gave potential world champion Luke Humphries a real run for his money in the third round, ultimately losing in the deciding final set. Nevertheless, his performance on his debut at Alexandra Palace gave Pietreczko confidence on his return, this time looking to do some damage. “I’ll give it my all. If I beat Luke Humphries last year, I would become world champion, so why not get to the semi-finals this year,” he says confidently. “I know I can beat any man or woman on the course.”
Pietreczko also takes a look at the already mentioned second round of the competition, in which he will face Van Veen, who has been in good form recently, winning the Youth World Championships and placing well in the Grand Slam of Darts. I think I have a good feeling and I will do everything in my power to beat him and go to the third round.”
It is worth adding that the duel between Pietreczko and Van Veen will take place on the evening of December 23, during the last session of the Darts World Championships before the Christmas break.
