Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has seen his future become a hot topic over the past few months as the 26-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season. The Reds are yet to reach an agreement on a new contract for the right-back, with rumors circulating that Real Madrid are particularly interested in signing the Englishman.
It would be a huge blow for us Liverpool lose the local talisman and vice-captain, but his replacement may need to be found if he were to leave, despite Conor Bradley’s performances prove he has the potential to take over from Alexander-Arnold.
Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports Germany stated that one potential successor to Alexander-Arnold had been ruled out by Arne Slot.
Liverpool are not interested in signing Jeremy Frimpong to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold
Plettenberg said via X: “Liverpool are impressed with Jeremy Frimpong’s development and performances at Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
“However, the 24-year-old right-back is not currently a specific summer transfer target, mainly because Arne Slot prefers a traditional right-back in a back four and Frimpong’s role does not currently suit LFC’s system. “
Frimpong who he currently ranks second on FourFourTwo’s list of the best right-backs in the worldhas stood out since joining Bayer Leverkusen With Gaelic in 2021
The Dutch winger started his youth career at the age of approx Manchester City but he rose to fame after scoring 14 goals in 47 games during Leverkusen’s historic undefeated league title run last season.
Bayer Leverkusen, led by former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso, plays in a 3-4-3 system, which gives wingers Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo license to attack.
However, under Arne Slot Liverpool play with a back four, and while Trent Alexander-Arnold’s impact on the Liverpool team is obvious, his number of creative players has declined since Slot’s addition.
As Plettenberg suggests, Frimpong would be less of a fit for Liverpool’s system, but the defender has also been linked with Manchester United and Manchester City.
Ruben Amorim has introduced a back three at Manchester United this season, suggesting Old Trafford would be a suitable destination for Frimpong, while a return to Manchester City may also be a consideration given Kyle Walker’s recent decline in form.
