Rangers: SFA chief concedes ‘decisions will be wrong’ amid penalty anger

Maxwell added: “This is the first time I’ve been asked about VAR decisions this year. It’s not always like that.”

Referee chief Willie Collam is expected to address the incident in his weekly VAR review on Thursday.

“Since Willie’s arrival, the clarity, the way he’s dealt with things, has been a breath of fresh air, and has made a real difference on and off the pitch and we want to build on that going forward,” continued Maxwell.

“Since the beginning of football, people have been talking about refereeing decisions, and we will be talking about them forever more. And that’s part of the game.

“There will never be a point where there aren’t controversial decisions because people don’t agree on decisions.”

Rangers manager Philippe Clement called the incident – which happened in the first half of extra time – a “really decisive moment”, going on to describe the absence of VAR intervention as “strange”.

New Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart said on Tuesday that the club had sought an explanation for the decision.
