December 19 – Premier League attendances remain strong despite the festive season in full swing. Attendance usually drops at this stage due to savings or family priorities, but Match Week 16 averaged 97.89% for the duration marking a strong score.
Despite the goalless draw at the Emirates, Arsenal continue to impress in strong presence, once again scoring above 99% of the margin. Their power is the strongest and by some distance of any team in the top six this season.
Newcastle United drew a strong 99.86% crowd to beat Leicester City, leaving just 70 seats cold. The Magpies have consistently scored the highest in the rankings for attendance.
Manchester City fans, on the other hand, returned in part for the Manchester derby at the weekend, but tasted the defeat that has become increasingly familiar in recent weeks. At the start of November, the club’s run of disappointing results was reflected in the stands, as match day attendances dropped to as much as 94% of capacity. While Sunday’s clash marked a slight uptick, the result could lower the score for the Etihad vs Everton next match on Boxing Day.
Brighton have also played less than their usual tally – possibly due to the festive season which often negatively affects the number of matches played.
On a more positive note, Liverpool recorded the highest attendance of the week for their 2-2 thriller with Fulham, which saw the Reds reduced to ten men after just 18 minutes. Anfield played their part, though, as Slott’s side came from behind on two occasions – but they couldn’t find the finishing touch to take the three points.
Matchweek 17 kicks off on Saturday afternoon when lusty Manchester City take on Aston Villa.
