Stephen Bunting takes down German debutant Kai Gotthardt surviving World Darts Championship scare

Stephen Bunting as the eighth seed at this tournament, there is new pressure as he looks to even book potential Premier League spots and not become the next big name to be relegated, which he almost was at the 2025 tournament PDC World Darts Championships.

Bunting came out of the set to do a seven-leg curl during the pivot and say goodbye to the German debutant Kai Gotthardt secure their place in round three 3-1. He feared the worst, especially after Michael Smith’s early defeat.

Many of the top names have struggled or broken through so far, and Bunting, fortunately with his hopes, is taking his place.

Bunting feared the worst from the very beginning. It was a dream start for the German, who finished the first set 3-1 with an average of 98.3, three 180s and 3/3 in the outer ring.

However, Bunting almost found himself 2-0 down in quick succession as his skin was largely saved. He saw Gotthardt miss three sets at double eight in the decider before going on to tie the score. This started his transformation.

Bunting ran through the third set unanswered, completely turning the competition upside down in a true Flip Reverse. It continued as Bunting scored 108 to go up 1-0 and quickly took the lead. He broke up with Gotthardt, who couldn’t even get a shot at 170 pounds, which was bothering him.

The German’s race was strong as Bunting posted a 68 to seal victory. He now returns after Christmas, which shortens the session early as Sandro Eric Sosing unfortunately experiences chest discomfort and has to withdraw.

This gave Ian White a bye and now Mickey Mansell and Tomoya Goto will be the next match to start tonight’s session just after 7pm.
