Rodgers was reacting to the result from Sunday’s League Cup final – when Rangers had a penalty denied by the Scottish FA referee. Willy Colum said should have given – VAR will never be perfect as it is still open to human interpretation.
The Ibrox side, who lost on penalties after a 3-3 draw, were awarded a free-kick in extra time when Liam Scales was penalized by referee John Beaton for pulling down Vaclav Cerny on the right of the Celtic box.
“There will always be issues around it – it’s still ultimately a human decision,” added Rodgers, who confirmed winger James Forrest will be out for six weeks and right-back Alastair Johnston could miss Sunday’s game at Dundee United.
“Everyone makes mistakes, and you can see in this case why they came to that conclusion.
“Willie is trying to be transparent and that’s only good, because there’s been talk for years that it’s not. He’s trying to be open and honest. And hopefully that’s helpful to the staff.
“There’s always a narrative after Old Firm games – the most important thing is to go out there and win. I’m just worried about winning and this team delivers in the pressure.”
Rodgers remains hopeful that a new deal can be agreed with left-back Greg Taylor but admits that some players could leave in January and that centre-back Stephen Welsh “could be one of them”.
