Southampton: Ivan Juric confirmed as new manager

Southampton have appointed Ivan Juric as their new manager on an 18-month contract.

Croat replaces Russell Martin Dismissed by the Saints After last week’s 5-0 defeat by Tottenham.

Juric, 49, was most recently Roma’s manager, but was Fired in November After just 12 matches in charge.

“I’m very satisfied. I think it’s a really big challenge but I’m very optimistic because I saw a team that can do better,” Juric said.

“It’s important to connect with the supporters immediately. I want an attacking team and I think the Southampton fans will love that.”

The Southampton job marks Juric’s first managerial role outside Italy, with his contract said to include a summer break clause.

Club sources say Juric was one of two options in the frame to replace Ralf Hasenhuttl when Nathan Jones was appointed in November 2022.

After the heavy defeat to Spurs the club were said to be looking for a manager who could bring some grit and discipline to the squad.

Juric is unlikely to take charge of Sunday’s match at Fulham, meaning his first game in the Saints dugout will be at home to West Ham on December 26.

Southampton are nine points from safety at the bottom of the Premier League table, with just one win so far this season.
