It only lasted one match Raymond van Barneveldparticipation in the 2025 World Darts Championships in London. The 57-year-old resident of The Hague played a very disappointing match against Nick Kenny on Saturday evening, losing 3-1 in sets to the Welshman.
Something went wrong with the turnout. Instead of the usual Eye of the Tiger, a technical error caused a different song to be played for the march, and halfway through the five-time world champion’s march, the music even disappeared completely.
On stage, Van Barneveld was not happy at all. Shaking his head, he saw that he was having the most difficulty finding the top, while doubles wasn’t going like clockwork either.

Despite his huge disappointment, Van Barneveld still appeared on Viaplay’s camera for an interview. There, the five-time world champion summed up his game as “a mess.”
“From the very beginning. I haven’t felt at home for a moment tonight. The constant pulling and pushing of these darts. And ask me why, I have no explanation. Or the fact that there are five men hanging on my shoulders, I really have no idea.” ” Van Barneveld lamented in his reaction. “There was no point where I thought we were doing well because he didn’t do well either, except for the first set.”
During the match, Van Barneveld changed equipment several times, trying to find the right feel for the different darts. “Yes, and it doesn’t make sense at all because I did really good things with the setup I started with,” Van Barneveld said about it. “It doesn’t say anything here. It’s a very large facility. I felt really, really good. Then you get into that match and it just doesn’t make any sense.”
