Chris Dobey will advance to the third round in 2025 PDC World Darts Championships. On Saturday afternoon at Alexandra Palacelast year’s losing quarterfinalist defeated Alexander Merkx 3-1.
“I took up the challenge today and managed to stay focused,” Dobey said during a conversation with representatives of the darts press at the fair Pally’s ally then, noting one moment in particular that changed the game. “122 was a key moment, especially after he missed the bull at 121. I felt like I had to let it go at that point and luckily for me, he hit it.”

Following his quarter-final heartbreak last year, blowing a 4-0 lead over Rob Cross, losing 5-4 and ultimately missing selection for the Premier League Darts, Dobey has been spending hours on the training board preparing for his Ally Pally comeback. “I worked really hard in training. My play on the court was excellent this year,” he explains. “I’m happy with how my game is at the moment and I hope I can keep pushing!”
It is worth noting that after Dobey’s victory on stage, there was a strange moment when “Hollywood” was showered with red wigs thrown from the crowd. “I didn’t know if the fans wanted me to wear it or not. I thought Ed Sheeran was back!” Dobey commented on the scene, referencing the global music superstar’s performance the day before. “I don’t know, they just put on wigs. Ginger wigs. It was literally at the end of the game. Huw Ware he came over and said, “Just leave.” They start throwing things. I just threw one back into the crowd! It was just a wig. There was no dangerous side to it, it was just wigs.
Josh Rock or Rhys Griffin are now waiting for Dobey in the third round.
