Britain’s Abbie Wood won bronze in the women’s 400m individual medley at the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Budapest.
Wood, who on the opening day was third in the 200 m individual medley race, he took the same position in the 400-meter freestyle, which was won by three-time Canadian Olympic champion Summer McIntosh, setting a world record in a time of four minutes, 15.48 seconds.
Katie Grimes of the United States was second in 4:20.14, and Wood went home with a personal best of 4:24.34.
“I’ve been waiting for this PB for four years now,” said Wood, 25.
“I think I achieved success in this group in 2020 and I have the same mentality, which is no pressure and just racing. I think I have to approach the rest of the season that way.
“I have a lot to take away from how I have trained over the last three months and I definitely think we will look at it as we get into the long course because we can’t ignore the results I have achieved and I hope it will strengthen my confidence to continue racing myself.”
