The lightweight Albert Ramirez is waiting for his moment. He wanted to prove himself the best fighter at the lightweight class. Thursday night’s fight is another step to playing the big name in the department.
Ramirez played 10 rounds at the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada this Thursday. This round will be streamed in the United States in ESPN+.
Ramirez, 32, ranks second in the WBA and WBC. Given his age and genealogy, Ramirez is looking for a big battle that will take place soon. Even after watching last weekend’s pay-per-view, he witnessed David Benavidez beat David Morrell, Ramirez’s confidence didn’t avoid it.
“I don’t want to underestimate any of my competitors, but the best thing in the department is me,” Ramirez said through an interpreter. “I feel ready. After the fight, I’m ready no matter what my team says.”
Ramirez fought in August and defeated former champion challenger Adam Deines in the seventh round. Calic is a 37-year-old Croatian who lost only to Joshua Buatsi, who is a stick of size between him and the British lightweight heavyweight. Ramirez has to exercise patience as Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol will regain all four titles in the department.
An undisputed battle is a good thing for fans, but log-jams can be created for competitors. Ramirez is experiencing the drawbacks of having only one fighter and all belts.
“If I had the chance to go fight, I would do it,” said Ramirez of 19-0 (16 KOS). “I just want to fight the top competitors in my department, maybe [David] Benavidez. I will do it. Callum Smith, Anthony Yarde, Joshua Buatsi – I just want to fight those guys. This is one of my main goals, and another is to get the word title. ”
Ramirez, who participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics, joined Tiger Management’s Eyes in 2023. Ramirez of Venezuela will fight the tiger’s eyes for the fifth time. He prepares for this battle in France.
Ramirez is the first to tell you what he knows about his opponent Calic (15-1 (9 KOS). He prefers to have his coach do the job in preparation for how to train.
“Honestly, the only thing I know about Marko Calic is that he is Croatian,” Ramirez said. “I didn’t learn from him. I let my team learn from him. They did the work. No matter what they say to me, I will go to the ring.”
As for comparison with Buatsi, Buatsi stopped Calic in the seventh round of 2020, Ramirez responded quickly.
“Like I told you before, I’m just waiting for my temporary title, the world champion,” Ramirez said. “If I have to fight him,” [Buatsi]I will do it. ”
