Anthony Gordon reacts to Sandro Tonali nearly scoring

Newcastle United Enjoyed a 3-1 win over Brentford last night to progress to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Italian midfield maestro Sandro Tonali has been in particularly strong form for Eddie Howe’s side, scoring twice in the win at St James’ Park and he came very close to a hat-trick!

Tonali didn’t get much of a chance to establish himself at Newcastle due to a betting ban early last season, not long after joining the Magpies from AC Milan.

Now, however, the 24-year-old is back in the team and playing at a very high level, and it’s clear he has the support of his teammates.

Watch below as Gordon was excited to see Tonali score a hat-trick in last night’s game against Brentford…

Newcastle could once again be Carabao Cup contenders

Newcastle looked in great form to beat a strong Brentford side, and the likes of Tonali and Gordon can certainly make this side a Carabao Cup contender this season.

NUFC notably reached the final of this competition in the 2022/23 season, losing to Manchester United on that occasion, but they will no doubt be desperate to get their hands on the silverware, and they look good enough to do so.

It hasn’t been the most consistent season from Howe’s side, but they have shown how good they can be on their day and a cup competition may suit them better than a top four finish in the Premier League.
