Anthony has joined Real Betis on loan for the rest of the season, with Manchester United confirming the departure of the Brazilian winger.
As reported last week TalkSport transfer notebookBetis have offered the Brazilian an escape route away from Old Trafford after his £86m arrival from Ajax flopped badly.
TalkSport understands that Betis will pay the 24-year-old £200,000-a-week wages, plus 84 per cent of bonuses.
Provided that there shall be no purchase option entered into the contract, AnthonyA direct loan move and the player is expected back at Old Trafford at the end of the season.
He joins a team that currently sits twelfth in La Liga, although Manuel Pellegrini’s side are still involved in the UEFA Conference League.
“Everyone at United would like to wish Anthony all the best for his spell in Seville,” the club said of his departure.
Anthony, who is among United’s top five earners, is tied to the Theater of Dreams until 2027.
But fans will likely be hoping that Anthony makes enough of an impact during his time in Spain to warrant a permanent move in the summer.
The forward initially got off to a dream start at United following his £86m switch from Ajax in 2022 after scoring on his debut against Arsenal.
But since then he has failed to prove anywhere near worth the money.
Anthony has played just 401 minutes this season, with his most game time coming Carabao Cup.
He has not started a league match all season and is not Amorim’s preferred choice at wing-back or narrow forward.
The Portuguese head coach claimed that Anthony can play wing-back and has ‘done a great job improving in that position’, but challenged him to ‘defend more’.
Despite these words of encouragement in December, he still failed to impress Amorim greatly.
And United are aiming to take him and others off their wage bill as Anthony settles into their profit and sustainability regulations.
Marcus Rashford Another potential loan deal could follow him through the exit door.
However, with just over a week left in the transfer window, no lawsuits have emerged over the England international.
