Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said he has no regrets in signing a two-year contract extension despite the club’s current problems.
Since the Spanish manager’s new contract was revealed last month, Man City have managed just one win in six matches in all competitions, which will keep him at the club until 2027.
After a series of disappointing performances in the Premier League, the current champions are in fifth place with 27 points, nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
They have already been eliminated from the FA Cup and are 22nd in the Champions League table after a 2-0 defeat to Juventus, with only the top 24 teams avoiding elimination.
Guardiola has admitted that his team’s current form has affected his sleep and diet, but he has no regrets about extending his contract, which could extend his City career to 11 years.
“Absolutely not,” Guardiola replied when asked if he regretted his involvement with the club.
“I couldn’t sleep – even worse than I am now – if I thought I was leaving when the club was in this situation. Impossible. They can fire me, it can happen. But to leave now, in this position? No chance.”

Guardiola joined the Abu Dhabi-owned club in 2016 from Bayern Munich and led them to 18 major trophies.
After winning a historic treble, including the long-awaited Champions League trophy in 2023, Guardiola believes his legacy at the club is secure.
However, the 53-year-old remains ambitious to keep his team among the elite of world football.
“What we did, we did. The satisfaction of doing this is finite. It worked,” said the Spaniard. “The way we played, the numbers, everything. It will always remain that way.”
“I couldn’t leave in this situation. There are many things we need to do.
“Nothing is forever. You have to be honest. “If I lose and lose and lose, more and more often I end up saying, ‘Guys, you need to hire someone else to fix this,'” he said.
“But I don’t feel it. I don’t know if in (another) big club you play 10 games and lose seven, whether they will have the confidence that I have. However, the club knows what we have done in the past and that the situation is unique for many reasons.
