WPL 2025 Auction: Who is Simran Shaikh, the allrounder bought by Gujarat Giants for Rs. 1.90 crore?

Mumbai all-rounder Simran Shaikh has been roped in by Gujarat Giants for a whopping amount of Rs. Priced at Rs 1.90 crore at the Women’s Premier League 2025 auction in Bengaluru on Sunday.

In the bidding war that broke out between the Giants and Delhi Capitals, the Giants ultimately came out on top, winning the bid by adding an explosive batsman to their mix.

Gujarat Giants coach Michael Klinger admitted that Simran and Dottin, who returns to the franchise for the 2025 edition, were the two players they wanted to approach and they managed to get both of them. He revealed that the management is keeping a close eye on India’s domestic tournaments and Simran’s batting power and knack for hitting quick sixes lower down the order is exactly what the team is looking for next season.

“We have been closely watching the local competitions, T20s and Challengers. He excels in hitting power and speed and complements other local Indian players [we’ve got in the squad]. To have someone like her, potentially in our front seven, who can hit straight sixes, complements us. We were aiming at her,” he said.

Simran previously represented the UP Warriorz team, but her performance in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2023 was disappointing. She played only 29 innings in nine matches, with a highest score of 11. She was not auctioned in 2024.

Simran scored 176 runs in the recently concluded Senior Women’s T20 Trophy in 11 matches, scoring a highest score of 47.
