WPL 2025 Auction: Uncapped Indian players dominate most-expensive players list

Uncapped Indian players stole the show during the WPL mini auction held in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Four of the five most expensive players in the auction are uncapped Indian players.

Simran Shaikh turned out to be the most expensive purchase in the mini auction and the Mumbai batsman was signed up by Gujarat Giants for a staggering amount of Rs. 1.90 crore.

Simran previously represented the UP Warriorz team, but her performance in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2023 was disappointing. She played only 29 innings in nine matches, with a highest score of 11. She was not auctioned in 2024.

West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin was the most expensive foreign player at the auction after she was acquired by Giants for Rs. 1.70 crore.

Dottin was signed for Rs 60 lakh by Gujarat Giants ahead of the inaugural WPL season. However, the franchise released it a few days before the first edition began in 2023, which sparked controversy.

Tamil Nadu all-rounder G Kamalini was signed by Mumbai Indians for a staggering price of Rs. 1.60 crore.

Kamalini, 16, was the second-highest scorer in the U-19 Women’s T20 Trophy competition, scoring 311 runs in eight matches and helping Tamil Nadu win the title in October. What made her stand out was her six-hitting ability, with the left-handed batsman taking a maximum of 10 in the tournament.
