Bangladesh started the three-match Twenty20 series against the West Indies on Sunday with a hard-fought seven-run victory.
At 61-7 in the 12th over against the West Indies, it seemed that Bangladesh’s score of 147-6 after 20 overs was close, but captain Rovman Powell’s strong batting ensured that the hosts secured victory within 10 runs of the final over.
However, Bangladesh seamer Hasan Mahmud (2-18) produced a stunning last over to dismiss Powell (60 off 35 balls) and two balls later, he ended the match by bowling Alzarri Joseph with the last over, leaving the West Indies’ reply at 140.
Mahedi Hasan took 4-13 off four deliveries for the tourists, including four off the top five West Indies batsmen.
Earlier, opener Soumya Sarkar was Bangladesh’s top scorer, scoring an airy 43 off 32 balls with two boundaries and three sixes.
Good batting from lower order Jaker Ali (27 off 27 balls), Shamim Hossain (27 off 13 balls) and Mahedi Hasan (26 off 24 balls) lifted Bangladesh to 147-6 from 20 overs.
