Players taking part in the 2025 European Women’s Championship will receive a percentage of the prize money for the first time, European football’s governing body UEFA announced on Monday.

UEFA’s Executive Committee has approved a prize pool of €41 million for the tournament in Switzerland, an increase of 156 percent compared to the 2022 event, with participating national associations distributing a guaranteed percentage of the prizes – between 30 and 40 percent – among players .

Compensation payments to European clubs that release players for the tournament will increase to six million euros, it was also announced at Monday’s meeting in Lausanne.

All 16 teams will receive €1.8 million for qualifying, representing 70 percent of the prize money, with the remaining 30 percent being performance bonuses, including those for victories in both the group and knockout stages.

The maximum prize money that the winner of the tournament can receive if they also win three group stage matches is €5.1 million.

UEFA said the increase in prize money reflected its commitment to developing the women’s game across Europe, with €1 billion earmarked for development over the next six years.
