Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah gave the Indian fans something to cheer for on day four as their 10-wicket stand ensured the team avoided a follow-on. Getting Australia to bat again would take time on the fifth day and help India come out with a draw and keep the series level at 1-1 in Melbourne.
For Australia, victory still wouldn’t be completely out of the question. A lead worth 180 and another 100 runs would have given him a chance to beat India in about 60 overs.
