Mbappe, Vinicius score as Real Madrid wins Intercontinental Cup 2024, beats Pachuca 3-0 in Qatar

Kylian Mbappe buried the ghosts of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final by helping Real Madrid beat CF Pachuca 2-0 in the Intercontinental Cup final at Lusail Stadium on Wednesday.

The Frenchman scored and assisted in a three-goal victory at the same stadium where his hat-trick went in vain two years ago as Lionel Messi’s Argentina won the World Cup.

Although Pachuca started the match on the offensive, Madrid had their first shot on target in the 37th minute. Vinicius Jr. he received a pass from Jude Bellingham, passed the defense on the left and then cut back to position Mbappe in midfield.

Mbappe created the second goal, setting up Rodrygo, who hit the net with his right flapper from outside the penalty area.

Just when it seemed that the action of the match was about to end, Oussama Idrissi kicked Lucas Vazquez in the right knee, and the referee, following a VAR check, awarded a penalty kick to Madrid in the 84th minute, which Vinicius used to put the competition to rest.
