Ravichandran Ashwin returned home on Thursday, landing in Chennai after announcing his surprise retirement during the third Test between India and Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Ashwin retired as India’s second highest wicket-taker in Tests with 537 scalps in 106 matches, putting him only behind the great Anil Kumble (619 wickets) in the overall statistics.
The 38-year-old played 10 wickets in India’s defeat in the day-night Test in Adelaide and took one wicket.
The Chennai bowler has played 116 ODIs for India, taking 156 wickets, while his 65 T20 international appearances have yielded 72 scalps. He expressed gratitude to the BCCI and other senior members of the team for a career that began in 2010 in the one-day format before making his Test debut a year later.
