SA vs PAK, 2nd ODI: Pakistan outplays South Africa to earn 81-run win and take series lead

Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled a spell of quality bowling as Pakistan won the One-Day International series against South Africa with one match remaining in a comprehensive 81-run victory at Newlands.

Pakistan has an unshakeable 2-0 lead heading into the third and final match on Sunday in Johannesburg.

South Africa surprisingly sent a visitor to bat in an area known to be difficult to chase under lights, and Pakistan posted an above-par score of 329.

Heinrich Klaasen provided the only real resistance for South Africa, scoring a perfect 97 off 74 balls, but was the last man to be dismissed for 248 balls in 43.1 overs after being outplayed in all aspects of the game.

HIGHLIGHTS of the SA vs PAK match

Captain Mohammad Rizwan scored 80 off 82 balls to secure Pakistan’s innings, but the impetus for the total came from Kamran Ghulam’s brilliant 63 off 32 deliveries.

Babar Azam made 73 off 95 deliveries and the visitors benefited from some sloppy fielding from South Africa as he missed many catches and was not accurate enough with the ball.

Debutant fast bowler Kwena Maphaka, 18, took 4-72 in his 10 overs, following a disappointing bowling performance from South Africa.

Several home batsmen started the game but Pakistan took wickets at regular intervals and Klaasen ran out of partners in the chase.

Afridi showed excellent control and recorded figures of 4-47, breaking through the South African middle order, beating the dangerous David Miller for 29 and taking the game away from the hosts.
